Well, we're here!
Buenos Dias...Donde esta el bano?
etc.

We arrived at noon, exhausted from an all night bus ride and then 6 or so hours with Continental. We were met by Wally and Cesar who brought us to a small Baptist Retreat Center in Guatemala city. Weather has been unseasonably cool. Kara, above, demonstrates the most effective entrance technique to an unheated pool.

We deeply miss Tim and Jan who were in an automobile accident and not able to join us. We're pretty sure everyone else is here. Parents may want to check.

The tour of Guatemala city was an eye opener. After seeing the huge relief map and finding the village in which they would be living, nestled in amoung 3 volcanos, we visited the National Palace on the center square. It has been 3 years now since the peace iniciative was signed here, and every day at 11am, a line of soldiers marches in to lay a fresh flower on the statue of the hands shown above. It usually takes Canadians a while to get used to the many soldiers and weapons on display and active street duty.
