SITE 3, SOUTH AFRICA

Soweto

We noticed something different about South Africa right away...barbed wire fences are the norm.

Everyone was so friendly to us. A couple of days in, we got to see these folks perform what's called "gumboot dancing". They even got some of our students involved...

We toured Soweto and learned about it's difficult history where many died fighting for freedom.

This is the first place we stayed in South Africa.

We met a lot of great people here...including Brenda, the candy lady!

This was our first South African Brai. Many of the people from the church we attended in Soweto came over to eat with us.

But Soweto wasn't all dancing and bbq's...we worked hard painting a school house, building a vegetable garden, and helping at a baby orphanage.

We also had the opportunity to visit a VERY poor township called Alexandra...
