The first week was spent working in the widely feared 'black' township, Alexandra. Our experience was quite different then the predictions of the surprised locals. We experienced safety, good food and lots of new songs and people. Our time was spent volunteering in an elementary school in Alexandra. The children there were quite excited to have us visit them, we felt like movie stars rolling up in our big white bus to the sounds of thousands of kids screaming. To unwind at the end of the week we did the tourist thing and checked out the malls and amusement park...GOLD REEF CITY!
