Raising Support Through Your Church
Missions and service is a central part of the Outtatown program, both in Canada and in our international locations. In partnership with local ministries and service organizations, Outtatown students will spend approximately one third of their time involved in missions & service assignments.
During their time in Canada, Outtatown students often volunteer with urban ministries, take part in service assignments at Christian camps & retreat centres, and serve & learn in local First Nations communities. In Guatemala, South Africa or Burkina Faso, students are involved in a series of programs and events that are designed to help them see the needs of the world and to respond to these needs in meaningful ways. The work here will range from construction projects to working with children, and will vary according to opportunities that are well suited to the students’ own gifts and abilities, as well as the need that is expressed by local ministry partners that we work with year after year.
Your Church may provide financial support for students from your congregation who are willing to consider this challenging program. They do so as an investment in developing future leaders, trusting that you will be better motivated and equipped for service in the kingdom of God.
As an educational institution, CMU will issue educational receipts (T2202A) for the educational portion of the program. Church support can go to cover any part of the program, including student tuition or the mission/service component. This must be fully compliant with the guidelines which all Canadian charities must follow. Church leaders can visit the Canadian Council of Christian Charities website www.cccc.org for more information.
We encourage students to share this information with their home Church and ask about the following options:
- Does your Church have funds available for Christian education or missions & service programs that you can apply for?
- Does your Church provide support through some form of fundraising within the local Church which can then be sent to CMU to cover the cost of your program?
- Do you know of individuals who are willing to send funds directly to CMU for your program costs? (CMU is not able to issue charitable tax receipts for funds designated for student tuition and will only issue educational receipts (T2202A) to the student).
Don’t hesitate to talk to your local pastor or congregational leadership regarding their willingness to support you in some way.
