Scholarships

Each year CMU gives five Outtatown Leadership Scholarships valued at $1,000 to students who demonstrate significant leadership ability, academic excellence, personal character, service and vision. Along with an application form, students must submit a resume, a 1000 word personal reflection and a letter of nomination giving reasons why they should be considered for this award. The forms must be submitted by February 28.

Student Loans

CMU is recognized as a designated educational institution under the Canada Student Loan program. Government loans for studies at CMU come from two sources: the federal government (generally 60%) and the provincial or territorial governments (generally 40%). To apply for loans, you must fill out an application from your home province/territory for each year that you are studying. These loan programs are intended to supplement the financial resources of students and their families. There is no guarantee that you will be granted financial assistance. The defining features of government student loans are:

  • They are interest free while you are in school. Interest only starts to accrue once you are finished school.
  • They do not require repayment until six months after you stop going to school.
  • They offer interest relief and/or debt reduction assistance for eligible students, depending on their situation.

Application forms for the Canada Student Loan Program may be obtained from your high school, the Department of Education in your home province, admissions staff at CMU, or by clicking on your home Province or Territory from the list below. Those marked with an * allow for you to apply on-line for a student-loan for studies at CMU.

Raising Support Through Your Church

The total cost of this program for 2008/2009 is $12,800 plus airfare, and $3,975 is understood to represent the Missions & Service portion.  As an educational institution, CMU will issue educational receipts (T2202A).  Churches on the other hand, may be willing to allow students to raise funds for the mission portion, issuing charitable receipts for the funds raised.

The Top 10 Ways To Pay For A Year on Outtatown

First of all, break it down.  Approximately one-third of the cost is room and board - $4,600 (you will be paying that much and more no matter where you are), one-third of the cost is missions/service - $3,975 (a chance to make a difference in the world, and believe me, after you have built someone a home or befriended an orphaned child, you will know that you have made a difference) and one third is the cost of your university education - $3,975 (and your parents have told you that is important, right?) The last portion is the flight cost – approximately $2,000 (the price of getting “out of town” – see the pun?).
